Pocket Aurora Papers

Forward e-mailed bills and statements straight into your archive

If your bills arrive as attachments, the easiest scan is no scan at all.

Pocket Aurora Papers is in development and not in the App Store yet.

The attachment problem

Energy bills, payslips, insurance renewals and bank statements increasingly arrive as PDFs in e-mail. They are easy to receive and hard to find again: the search in a mail app looks at subjects and senders, not at the text inside the attachment.

A private address for your archive

Some archive apps give you an e-mail address of your own. You forward the message, and its attachments are filed as documents, where search reads every word inside them. Nothing has to be downloaded, renamed or moved by hand.

What to check before you use one

Who can send to it: an address anyone could write to would fill your archive with spam, so look for a list of addresses you allow. What happens to the e-mail itself: the message is not the document, and it need not be kept. Where it is processed, if that matters to you.

How Pocket Aurora Papers does it

Papers gives you a private address. Mail from an address you have allowed, up to ten, is checked for viruses, its size (up to 25 MB) and the sending domain's authentication, and its attachments become documents; up to 50 messages a day are filed. The message is received in the EU, and deleted once it has been processed, and otherwise automatically about a day later. If your cloud storage is full, the mail is not filed. The privacy page has the details.
